WSE Sea Gate Radio, Brooklyn, NY

Sea Gate WSE was one of the stations seized by the U.S. Navy during World War I. Although commercial radio stations were returned to their original owners effective February 29, 1920, most of the Marconi shore stations were considered obsolete and never reactivated, and I'm pretty sure Sea Gate was one of the decommissioned stations. WNY appears to have been built by RCA a few years later. Below is what I've found going through the old records: Sea Gate was a Marconi station, with call sign MSE listed starting in the October 1, 1908 Navy list, becoming WSE after the U.S. began licensing land stations in late 1912. It was still listed as WSE in the July 1, 1916 Radio Stations of the United States list, which was the last issued before the U.S. seized all radio stations during World War I. It was operated by the Navy during the war, and has a Naval call, NAH in Sea Gate, in the June 15, 1919 list. Somewhat confusingly, in the June 1, 1920 Radio Service Bulletin a new station with the call WSE, operated by the Independent Wireless Telegraph Co., is listed as located in New York (Babylon), but this appears unrelated to the Sea Gate station, and they likely were just making use of a well-known call. In the July 1, 1922 RSB, this WSE changed its call to WBC. WNY first appears in the July 1, 1920 Radio Service Bulletin, listed as a new station located in New York, NY, and controlled by the Radio Corporation of America. However, in the May 2, 1921 RSB, WNY-New York is listed as deleted, replaced by new WNY, also operated by RCA, located in New Brunswick, NJ. Then, in the October 1, 1921 RSB, WNY-New Brunswick is deleted, and WNY-Brooklyn is listed as a new station, located at 74-00-05 49-39-30 (corrected to 74-00-05 40-39-30 in the March 1, 1922 issue). In the October 2, 1922 RSB, WNY's location was changed to New York (Borough of Brooklyn). Marconi’s Sea Gate station at Coney Island opened January 19, 1906 with call letters “SE.”
