KFS San Francisco, CA
KFS was a combined maritime and point to point station located south of San Francisco with its transmit site at Palo Alto and its receive site in Half Moon Bay (where it remains). These stations provided just about every radio service imaginable. KFS, the maritime station, provided CW and, later, SITOR service to ships at sea. This evolved into a globe girdling system with network control at Half Moon Bay. KFS absorbed KTK and for a period used both call signs. Later the KTK frequencies became the KFS “B” frequencies. On the point to point side the assets of Press Wireless at Belmont were absorbed and everything from broadcast audio to Hawaii and news photos via radiofax were provided.
